Here I am....today! - You are your only competition
Making the most of what you have ,Imperfection = extraordinary
If I had a dollar for every time someone quipped ‘you would look so good
if you just lost some weight’, I would be an extremely wealthy woman. I’m sure
many of us could testify to this and what’s worse is that these negative words
probably come from a loved one like a family member or friends.
The journey to loving yourself is an uphill battle with much complexity
but it’s so worth it when you get there.
Maybe you’re thinking ‘I know I look good and I love myself, every inch,
curve and contour of my body’.
Question is will others look at you and think the same? The fact that
you are already thinking about others opinion of you is testament to ‘doubt’.
Beauty is subjective and everybody is entitled to their own opinion,
including the controversial Karl Lagerfeld who doesn’t hide his aversion to
full figured women see article here.
His comments or anybody else’s for that matter should not stop you from
loving yourself and accepting your imperfections.
There is not only one type of beauty or body type, but you already knew
that. Imperfection is what makes us all different and unique in our ways.
There will only ever be one you and everyone has something that makes them
genuinely physically attractive.
I’m
not going to lie and say that I believe every woman is equally beautiful the
same way I don’t think ‘beauty is only skin deep’
So how do I learn to love myself?
Know
who you are and stop coveting the way other women look!
Firstly its finding your confidence, I cannot stress how important it is
to be confident in yourself .
Confidence definitely comes from within and sometimes you
just have to fake it till you make it.
You have to accept your body the way it is and stop comparing it
somebody’s else’s body. Your perceptions of body image and fat acceptance
are not going to happen overnight. Building confidence takes time and
patience but most importantly having the discipline to not compare yourself to
others in the first place. It is so unnecessary and could damage you for the
rest of your life not just when it comes to your body image but also in getting
the other things you want in life like a job opportunity or possibly the love
of your life.
Your only competition is you!
Bury the notion of seeing other women as
your competition!
Start with the small things - maybe you are conscious of
your legs and won’t wear any skirts unless they are trailing the floor and as
wide as a refuse bag. Life
is way too short to be over thinking your wardrobe choices and depriving
yourself from looking and feeling good right now, not when you’re a few pounds
lighter or when you get a six pack.
Something as simple as trading your usual flats for a killer pair of
heels can do wonders for your self esteem.
If you master the ability to love yourself then you won’t give two hoots
about what the next person thinks.
